Sikh Battalion Departs for UN Mission in Cong

6th Battalion of the Sikh Regiment has departed from Delhi for UN Peace Keeping Mission in Congo today.
6 SIKH was raised in 1962 and has been nominated based on their outstanding performance in 1971 war and thereafter in Counter Insurgency Operations in the North East and Jammu & Kashmir. This gallant battalion has the honour of being awarded the Battle Honour for Defence of Poonch, Theatre Honour of J & K, COAS unit citation and a long tally of gallantry awards to include 01 UYSM, 01 PVSM, 01 AVSM, 01 MVC, 05 VrC, 05 SC, 13 SM and 02 mention-in-despatches.
Maj Gen Vinay Bhatnagar, Additional Directorate General (Staff Duties) addressed the troops of this battalion. He reminded the troops of the challenging task ahead of them, which requires utmost dedication, devotion and humanitarian approach for ensuring peace in Democratic Republic of Congo.
