16 Battle Group Thermal Imaging systems for British Army’s Scimitar Armoured vehicles.

Thales UK has won a contract to supply the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) with a further 16 Battle Group Thermal Imaging (BGTI) systems for installation on the Army’s Scimitar Armoured vehicles.

The BGTI system has already been installed on almost 600 Warrior and Scimitar vehicles and gives troops the ability to see, locate and engage targets during the day and night and at far longer ranges than ever before. Currently, 146 Scimitars are fitted with BGTI.

Comprising a stabilised Gunners Sighting System, a Commanders Crew Station, a GPS and Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) and a Drivers Display, the BGTI system significantly enhances the fighting effectiveness of the Scimitar to detect and engage targets. The thermal imager gives much improved situational awareness at night and in poor visibility, while the eye-safe laser rangefinder, fire control system and INS provide own position and target location at extended range with increased accuracy and robustness.

BGTI has received outstanding approval from both vehicle crews and senior British Army officials during recent and current deployed operations.
